Pecten (Lyropecten) pittieri was named by Dall (1912) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; circum-Caribbean.]. Its type specimen is USNM 214368, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Chlamys pittieri by Butterlin (1960); it was recombined as Gigantopecten pittieri by Mongin (1968); it was recombined as Lyropecten pittieri by De Buisonjé (1974).
