Vermetus conohelix was named by Tenison Woods (1877) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Southern Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Thylacodes conohelix by Tate (1893); it was recombined as Lilax conohelix by Darragh (1970).
