Cucullaea cainozoica was named by Tenison Woods (1877) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene; Southern Australia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pectunculus cainozoicus by Tate (1885); it was recombined as Glycymeris cainozoicus by Darragh (1970); it was recombined as Glycymeris cainozoica by Darragh and Kendrick (2010).
