Taxonomy
Uraster hirudo was named by Forbes (1848). It is not extant. It is the type species of Urosoma.

It was recombined as Palaeaster hirudo by Salter (1857) and Wright (1863); it was recombined as Urasterella hirudo by Schuchert (1915); it was recombined as Urosoma hirudo by Spencer (1930), Spencer (1934), Owen (1965) and Lewis et al. (2007).
