Venericardia carinata was named by Sowerby (1819) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Eocene; western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cardita carinata by Kemp (1976); it was recombined as Claibornicardia carinata by Le Renard (1994).
