Sotalia fluviatilis

Taxonomy
Delphinus fluviatilis was named by Gervais and Deville (1853). It is extant. Its type locality is Rio Maranon, which is in a Holocene fluvial horizon in Peru.

It was recombined as Steno fluviatilis by Gray (1866); it was synonymized subjectively with Sotalia tucuxi by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Sotalia tucuxi fluviatilis by Trouessart (1904); it was synonymized subjectively with Sotalia pallida by Scheffer and Rice (1963); it was recombined as Sotalia fluviatilis by Hershkovitz (1966), da Silva and Best (1996), Rice (1998), Cunha et al. (2005), Mead and Brownell (2005) and Perrin et al. (2013).
