Taxonomy
Delphinus delphis was named by Linnaeus (1758) [No type specimen designated (Hershkovitz, 1966; Heyning & Perrin, 1994. No type specimen designated (Hershkovitz, 1966; Heyning & Perrin, 1994.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Eudelphinus delphis by Palmer (1904) and Portis (1925).
