Parangularia was named by Kutassy (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. Its type is Purpuroidea hungarica.

It was assigned to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Purpurinidae by Szabó (2011).
