Ostrea elegans was named by Deshayes (1832) [DISTRIBUTION: Cenozoic; Western Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Crassostrea (Cubitostrea) elegans by Glibert and van de Poel (1965); it was recombined as Cubitostrea elegans by Le Renard (1994).
