Ostrea bellovacina was named by Lamarck (1806) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleogene; Paris Basin.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was corrected as Ostrea bellovacensis by Cossmann (1897); it was recombined as Ostrea (Euostrea) bellovacina by Douvillé (1920); it was recombined as Ostrea (Bellostrea) bellovacina by Vialov (1936); it was recombined as Ostrea (Turkostrea) bellovacina by Lan (1997).
