Taxonomy
Coenothyris oweni was named by Feldman (2002). Its type specimen is AMNH 46490, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Har Gevanim, Makhtesh Ramon, Subunit 42, which is in a Fassanian open shallow subtidal limestone in the Saharonim Formation of Israel.
