Taxonomy
Ostrea varia was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Pleistocene-Recent; Western Europe.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Pecten varius by Wood (1850) and Jeffreys (1864); it was recombined as Chlamys varia by Dermitzakis and Georgiades-Dikeoulia (1987); it was recombined as Chlamys (Chlamys) varia by Hendy (2007).
