Taxonomy
Cardium (Anthocardia) avonum was named by Richards (1953) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is FGS I-7575, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Florida Geological Survey L-76, Avon Park Limestone, Levy Co., FL, which is in a Lutetian marine limestone in the Avon Park Formation of Florida.
It was recombined as Trigoniocardia (Americardia) avona by Palmer and Brann (1965).
