Pisinna was named by Monterosato (1878) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Amphithalmus (Pisinna) by Ladd (1966).

It was assigned to Amphithalmus by Ladd (1966); to Barleeidae by Ponder (1984) and Beu et al. (1990); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
