Gryphaea thirsae was named by Gabb (1862) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Gulf Coast.]. It is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Ostrea thirsae by Heilprin (1884) and Maury (1912); it was recombined as Odontogryphaea thirsae by Palmer and Brann (1965).
