Nucula nova was named by Wickens (1911) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Seymour Island, Antarctica.]. Its type specimen is MO 1970, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Nucula (Leionucula) nova by Zinsmeister (1984) and Stilwell and Zinsmeister (1992).
