Australoportlandia antarctica was named by Zinsmeister (1984) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Seymour Island, Antarctica.]. Its type specimen is USNM 365479, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Australoportlandia.
