Taxonomy
Acila muta was named by Clark (1918) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene; Pacific Coast, North America.]. Its type specimen is UCMP 11196, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 1131, Walnut Creek, which is in an Oligocene marine horizon in California.

It was recombined as Acila (Truncacila) muta by Durham (1944), Addicott (1973) and Moore (1983).
