Solen gravidus was named by Clark (1918) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene; Pacific Coast, North America.]. Its type specimen is UCMP 11133, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. 1131, Walnut Creek, which is in an Oligocene marine horizon in California.
It was recombined as Solena (Plectosolen) gravidus by Moore (2003).
