Dosinia gyrata was named by Gabb (1864) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Pacific coast, North America.]. It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Lucina gyrata by Anderson and Hanna (1925); it was recombined as Phacoides gyrata by Clark and Woodford (1927); it was recombined as Miltha (Eomiltha) gyrata by Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Eomiltha gyrata by Vokes (1969) and Vokes (1969); it was recombined as Gibbolucina (Eomiltha) gyrata by Moore (1988).
