Lucina excavata was named by Carpenter (1857) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Recent; California-Mexico.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Lucina (Here) excavata by Gabb (1866) and Stewart (1930); it was recombined as Here (Here) excavata by Moore (1988); it was recombined as Here excavata by Addicott (1973) and Coan et al. (2000).
