Procerithiopsis was named by Mansuy (1914) [Sepkoski's age data: P l Sepkoski's reference number: 1]. It is not extant. Its type is Procerithiopsis ambiguus.
It was assigned to Soleniscinae by Knight et al. (1960) and Nützel et al. (2000); to Soleniscidae by Pan and Erwin (2002); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
