Panopea nucleoides was named by Wilckens (1911) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene; Seymour Island, Antarctica.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Panopea (Panopea) nucleoides by Pugaczewska (1984); it was recombined as Mya (Arenomya) nucleoides by Stilwell and Zinsmeister (1992).
