Taxonomy
Treptoceras was named by Flower (1942) [An orthocerid, a homonym for the ammonoid genus]. It is not extant. Its type is Treptoceras duseri.

It was synonymized subjectively with Orthonybyoceras by Teichert et al. (1964).

It was assigned to Orthocerida by Flower (1942); and to Proteoceratidae by Frey (1995).
