Taxonomy
Orthoceras clarksvillense was named by Foerste (1924). It is the type species of Pleurorthoceras.

It was recombined as Michelinoceras clarksvillense by Foerste (1932); it was recombined as Pleurorthoceras clarksvillense by Flower (1962), Kröger and Aubrechtova (2017) and Kröger and Aubrechtová (2019).
