Aphralysia was named by Garwood (1914) [Calcimicrobe]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Aphralysia carbonaria. It is the type genus of Aphralysiaceae.
It was assigned to Cyanophyta by Johnson and Konishi (1956); and to Aphralysiaceae by Vachard and Aretz (2004) and Krainer and Vachard (2019).
