Taxonomy
Ormoceras covingtonense was named by Foerste and Teichert (1930). It is the type species of Orthonybyoceras.
It was synonymized subjectively with Orthonybyoceras dyeri by Frey (1995); it was recombined as Orthonybyoceras covingtonense by Shimizu and Obata (1935) and Kröger and Aubrechtova (2017).
