Rhynchonella perlamellosa was named by Whitfield (1878).

It was recombined as Lepidocyclus perlamellosus by Alberstadt (1973); it was recombined as Lepidocyclus perlamellosa by Amsden (1983); it was recombined as Lepidocyclus perlamellosum by Klingensmith (2007).
