Rhynchonella argenturbica was named by White (1874).

It was recombined as Rhynchotrema argenturbicum by Cooper (1944); it was misspelled as Rhynchotrema argenturbiem by Allen and Lester (1957); it was recombined as Hypsiptycha argenturbicum by Amsden (1983).
