Taxonomy
Leurostega aphelix was named by Robison and Pantoja-Alor (1968). Its type specimen is USNM 159004, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is USNM 16002b, Tinu Formation, Oaxaca, Mexico - Robison and Pantoja-Alor 1968, which is in the Tremadoc of limestone/shale the Tinu Formation Mexico. It is the type species of Leurostega.
