Pseudoscalites was named by Kittl (1892) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Ladi Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 119]. Its type is Pseudoscalites elegantissimus.

It was reranked as Angularia (Pseudoscalites) by Wenz (1938).

It was assigned to Angularia by Wenz (1938); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Purpurinidae by Nützel and Erwin (2004).
