Pseudozonaria was named by Schilder (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 121]. It is extant. Its type is Cypraea arabicula.

It was reranked as Cypraea (Pseudozonaria) by Petuch (1990); it was reranked as Zonaria (Pseudozonaria) by Groves and Nielsen (2003).

It was assigned to Cypraea by Petuch (1990); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); to Zonaria by Groves and Nielsen (2003); and to Pseudozonariinae by Landau and Marques da Silva (2010) and Landau and Groves (2011).
