Taeniactinidae was named by Spencer (1927). It is not extant. Its type is Taeniactis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Helianthasteridae by Owen (1965).

It was assigned to Asterozoa by Spencer (1927); to Gnathasterina by Lehmann (1957); to Eugnathina by Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Hemizonida by Blake (1989).
