Taxonomy
Leptaena sericea rhombica was named by M'Coy (1852) [Lectotype selected by Jones (1928).]. Its type specimen is SM A11301 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Sowerbyella rhombica by Jones (1928); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta rhombica by Williams (1963) and Cocks and Rong (1989); it was recombined as Eoplectodonta (Eoplectodonta) rhombica by Cocks (1982), Cocks (2005), Sayar and Cocks (2013) and Cocks (2014).
