Taxonomy
Macrotherium pentelicum was named by Gaudry and Lartet (1856) [Ancylotherium is not the original genus].

It was recombined as Ancylotherium pentelici by Gaudry (1867); it was recombined as Ancylotherium pentelicum by Geraads et al. (2007), Giaourtsakis and Koufos (2009).
