Disolenia was named by Ehrenberg (1861) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l R]. It is extant. It was considered unknown by Boltovskoy (1998).

It was assigned to Cannobotryidae by Boltovskoy (1998); and to Spumellaria by Sepkoski (2002).
