Taxonomy
Pleurotomaria verneuili was named by Geinitz (1848). Its type specimen is PG. 4562, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Phymatopleura verneuili by Pattison (1977) and Hollingworth and Barker (1991).
