Aglaocetus burtinii

Taxonomy
Plesiocetus burtinii was named by Van Beneden (1859). Its type specimen is lectotype IRScNB CtM 677/Reg 1409, a partial skull (right periotic), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Deurne (Fort 1), Deurne Sand, which is in a Tortonian lagoonal sandstone in the Diest Formation of Belgium.

It was recombined as Cetotherium burtinii by Van Beneden (1872); it was recombined as Cetotherium (Plesiocetopsis) burtinii by Brandt (1873); it was recombined as Heterocetus burtinii by Vanden Broeck (1874); it was recombined as Cetotherium burtini by Lydekker (1887); it was corrected as Plesiocetus burtini by Trouessart (1904); it was misspelled as Plesiocetus burtini by Van Beneden (1880), Van Beneden (1885), Trouessart (1898) and Abel (1901); it was recombined as Aglaocetus burtinii by Steeman (2010).
