Taxonomy
Pseudolithothamnium album was named by Pfender (1936).

It was recombined as Ethelia alba by Massieux and Denizot (1964); it was corrected as Pseudolithothamnium alba by Lakhanpal et al. (1976); it was recombined as Polystrata alba by Bassi (1998), Misra et al. (2001) and Jauhri et al. (2006).
