Taxonomy
Palaeocoma marstoni was named by Salter (1857). It is the type species of Stuertzaster.

It was recombined as Sturtzaster marstoni by Schöndorf (1910), Schuchert (1914), Schuchert (1915), Spencer (1940) and Owen (1965); it was misspelled as Sturzaster marstoni by Goldring and Stephenson (1972); it was recombined as Stuertzaster marstoni by Spencer and Wright (1966), Dean Shackleton (2005) and Lewis et al. (2007).
