Scrupus was named by Finlay (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 681,899]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Vitrinellidae by Beu et al. (1990); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tornidae by Criscione and Ponder (2013).
