Aegyrcitherium beonensis was named by Antoine (1997).

It was recombined as Hispanotherium (Aegyrcitherium) beonensis by Guérin and Pickford (2003); it was recombined as Hispanotherium beonense by Antoine et al. (2002), Antoine et al. (2010) and Lu (2013).
