Deinotherium giganteum was named by Kaup (1829). It is not extant. It is the type species of Deinotherium.
It was recombined as Dinotherium giganteum by Kaup (1832); it was misspelled as Dinotherium giganteum by Bergounioux and Crouzel (1961), Tsoukala and Melentis (1994), Shoshani and Tassy (1996), Athanassiou (2004), Poulakakis et al. (2005), Geraads et al. (2005) and Aiglstorfer et al. (2014).
It was recombined as Dinotherium giganteum by Kaup (1832); it was misspelled as Dinotherium giganteum by Bergounioux and Crouzel (1961), Tsoukala and Melentis (1994), Shoshani and Tassy (1996), Athanassiou (2004), Poulakakis et al. (2005), Geraads et al. (2005) and Aiglstorfer et al. (2014).
