Phragmactidae was named by Spencer (1951). It is not extant. Its type is Phragmactis.

It was corrected as Phragmactinidae by Spencer and Wright (1966) and Blake (2014).

It was assigned to Eophiuricae by Spencer (1951) and Owen (1965); to Proturina by Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Asterozoa by Blake (2014).
