Taxonomy
Balaenoptera omurai was named by Wada (2003). It is extant. Its type specimen is NSMT-M32505, an other.

It was synonymized subjectively with Balaenoptera edeni by Mead and Brownell (2005); it was recombined as Rorqualus omurai by Hassanin et al. (2012).
