Hypisodontinae was named as a subfamily. It is not extant.

It was reranked as the family Hypisodontidae by Vislobokova (2001) and Korth et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Hypertragulidae by Matthew (1908), Scott (1940) and Gazin (1955); to Hypertraguloidea by Vislobokova (2001); and to Artiodactyla by Korth et al. (2022).

I. A. Vislobokova 2001Small in size. Skull brachyceph- alic with long and slender rostrum. Orbits large. Postor- bital region anteriorly compressed. Postorbital bar com- plete, formed mostly by frontal. Auditory bullae large, strongly inflated, and meeting mid ventrally. External acoustic meatus medium long. Stylohyoid vagina encroaching upon bulla and enclosed posteriorly. Anterior opening of nasal cavity small. Upper canines large. Ante- rior premolars reduced; the first two of these lost. Radius and ulna fused. Fibula reduced and distally fused with tibia. Central metapodials III and IV closely appressed.
