Cetotherium polyporum

Taxonomy
Eschrichtius polyporus was named by Cope (1869) [no type specimen listed in Cope (1869, 1871) ]. Its type specimen is ANSP 12694, a mandible (posterior mandible fragment), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Bells Bridge, which is in a Pliocene shallow subtidal sandstone in the Yorktown Formation of North Carolina.

It was recombined as Cetotherium polyporus by Trouessart (1898); it was recombined as Balaenoptera polyporum by Hay (1930); it was considered a nomen vanum by Barnes and McLeod (1984) and Uhen et al. (2008); it was recombined as Cetotherium polyporum by Cope (1895), Hay (1902), Trouessart (1904), Abel (1938) and Tarasenko and Lopatin (2012).
