It was recombined as Clemmys insculpta by Cope (1899), Hay (1902), Hay (1930), McDowell (1964), Bickham (1975) and Parris and Daeschler (1995); it was recombined as Glyptemys insculpta by Agassiz (1857), Holman and Fritz (2001), Holman (2002) and van Dijk et al. (2014).
