It was recombined as Calemys muhlenbergii by Agassiz (1857); it was recombined as Clemmys muhlenbergii by McDowell (1964); it was recombined as Clemmys muhlenbergi by Bickham (1975); it was misspelled as Clemmys muhlenbergi by Hutchison (1963); it was recombined as Glyptemys muhlenbergii by Holman and Fritz (2001), Holman (2002) and van Dijk et al. (2014).
