Struthioptera was named by Finlay and Marwick (1937) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 127].

It was assigned to Aporrhaidae by Zinsmeister (1977) and Stilwell and Zinsmeister (1992); to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002); and to Struthiopterinae by Kollmann (2009).
